Spirituality In Coaching

For most of us, work represents the largest slice in the pie of life. It's where we go each day to interact with the world outside our door, to put our skills to use in the service of mankind, and to provide for ourselves and our families.

As our world, lives and careers become more complex, our notions of work are undergoing an enormous sea change, adds Whyte, and "our workplaces are themselves being worked on, molded and often scoured away by the same enormous tidal forces."

This 'sea change' is prompting many of us to redefine our relationship with work, to connect and align our lives with a career or calling that motivates us beyond the financial or material rewards. If we're going to put in that many hours and accumulate that must stress, we figure, we might as well do work that is personally fulfilling and rewarding. The alternative is burnout, or a daily routine of sending our bodies to the office while our hearts and minds go elsewhere.

For organizations operating in a knowledge economy, the challenge is to connect employees to a purpose worthy of their talents and realigned priorities, and to create an environment that brings out their best … all while thriving financially.

These challenges are difficult and precarious at best. We are venturing in uncharted territory, making our way to a new world of work on both individual and organizational levels. The good news is, you are not alone. Many are taking up this conversation and joining with others to explore the possibilities and pitfalls of reinventing our careers and our workplaces.

The Spiritual Coaches Network is a global virtual community of coaching professionals who work with individuals and organizations to foster greater self-expression, wholeness and integration of work and life. We focus on providing members with opportunities to learn, network, create community, and share knowledge and tools. We are also available as a resource on the growing field of coaching and coach training programs.

Collectively, we take up the discussions and questions of the day:

    • What is 'spirit at work'? What does it look like?
    • What's required to create it?
    • What are the benefits to the individual and organizations?
    • What role does coaching play?
    • How do we bridge the chasm, real or imagined, between business and spirituality?

There are no easy answers. Together, we evolve the conversation.
